She Mob Plots to Alter Mom Rock
Before It Ever Takes Off:
"Not in my world!" shout bandmembers

She Mob's new CD, "Not In My World" has already garnered critical raves from coast to coast. Chuck Eddy of the Village Voice writes in his Eddytor's Dozen column: "Of the newer records below, the longest and noisiest and artsiest, by the lady-led Oakland trio She Mob, is also the catchiest and funniest. How often does that happen?"

Denise Sullivan of the Contra Costa Times (and author of the new book "The White Stripes: Sweethearts of the Blues") writes:

The local gals (and guy) and special guests who now constitute She Mob have come up with a swell new CD - their best yet - in "Not in My World." Taking the energy and anger of early punk and fusing it with issues facing contemporary women (and men), the Mob's music is a flurry of wild fits and starts and primitive, funky, dubwise Bo Diddley beats (and some sax), though they are capable of whatever they want to play (even a little something bluesy as on "Bad Cup of Coffee"). Fans of grrrr-lish bands, from the Slits to Le Tigre, will find much to dig on She Mob's scene. Right now my favorite tracks are Suki's moody "Bend Down Low" and Sue's moody "Several Secrets." Must be something to do with my mood.

On November 12 She Mob will host its CD release at the legendary Starry Plough in Berkeley, California. Just for this setting She Mob (Sue Hutchinson, Suki O'Kane and Alan Korn) will perform, for the first time ever, the entire album from back to front, accompanied by Lisa McElroy on keyboard and vocals, Jeff Hobbs on strings and reeds, and special guest Joe Rut on electric guitar.

She Mob will also present very special guests Sophie Elkin, a 9 year old kid with a little bit o' punk and folk attitude. Perhaps best known as co-host of "The Poop Show," a fake TV show, Elkin plays originals and covers on her new electric guitar she just got for her 9th birthday. Elkin, switching over from her acoustic, makes a shift into the rock goddess she is becoming. Her favorite bands are the Beatles, Green Day, and X-Ray Specs. For Halloween this year, she dressed as a zombie businessman, complete with briefcase.

Closing the bill are cult favorites The Bleu Canadians playing an infectious brand of 60's Brit-pop, bubble-gum, garage rock/dance music. Born of a case of identity theft and revenge, the band's leader Derek Lindsay takes his name and persona from the real Derek Lindsay - a Canadian hack who stole his identity online - charging up thousands of dollars in Molson Beer. Featuring members of The Gazillions and the Trenchermen, the Bleu Canadians are all about "havin' a good time, Ay?"
